Mpraeso (E/R), Nov 25, GNA – The Omanhene of Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II, has called on the government to pay compensation to chiefs and other landowners for land acquired for public projects.
He said no compensation had been paid to the Kwahu Traditional Council for the large track of land destroyed following the construction of the Akosombo Dam yet the Volta River Authority was claiming ownership of the 280 feet contour land along the Volta Lake. Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng said this when the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Afram-Asiedu and the Minister for Communication, Dr Benjamin Aggrey-Ntim, paid a curtsy call on Kwahu Traditional Council at it’s meeting at Mpraeso on Friday.
He urged telecommunication companies constructing antennas to consult chiefs in those communities where the antennas are sited for negotiations and payment of compensation to avoid conflict. Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng advised the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to include the teaching of religious and moral education in the new educational reform to avoid the break down of morality among the youth. He called for the expansion of the school-feeding program to cover more schools in the rural communities where parents find it difficult to feed their children.
Mr Afram-Asiedu said the creation of the Kwahu East District, elevation of the Kwahu West District to a municipal status and the construction of roads and other social infrastructures showed the government’s interest in the development of the area. He said the government would spend huge sums of money to finance road construction, provide portable water and extend electricity to some communities in the area under this year’s budget.
