Kintampo NPP chairmen rise against ban on DCE

Jema (B/A) Sep. 3, GNA – The chairmen of polling stations in Kintampo South constituency of the New Patriotic Party called for the lifting of a ban restraining Mr. Yaw Adjei-Duffour, Kintampo South District Chief Executive and Mr. Kwasi Adu Gyan, Brong-Ahafo regional chairman of the party from contesting in the primaries for the parliamentary elections next year.

The petition signed by 94 out of the 98 polling station chairmen said the ban was imposed on the two men by the NPP National Chairman, Mr. Peter Mac-Manu.

It was copied to the NPP National Chairman, NPP regional chairman in the constituency, Regional Minister and the media, among others. The resolution followed a recent meeting of the chairmen and delegates in the constituency convened by NPP constituency chairmen in Brong-Ahafo at Jema.

The chairmen of the polling stations stated that the only NPP candidate in the constituency for the 2008 parliamentary elections was Mr. Adjei-Duffour, whom they said had ably marketed himself to the admiration of the people.

Since his assumption of office two years ago, the DCE has worked so hard in the newly-created district and through his hard work, dedication, commitment and honesty, the district can boast of so many completed development projects, the polling station stated. They named the construction of school buildings, rural clinics, roads, area council buildings, staff bungalows, an administration building for the district assembly (yet to be completed), boreholes, a modern refuse dump as some of the projects, as well as the award of scholarships and bursaries for needy children.

The petition said; “by these achievements, the DCE had already marketed himself so well in the district and that any attempt to replace him with a new candidate would be suicidal for the great Osono Party”. They contended that the ban was not only undemocratic but was also against natural justice since the two men were not given the opportunity to defend themselves.
