Accra, July 17, GNA- The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has received a Spanish grant of two million euros to purchase a digital border surveillance system to enhance security at the Aflao border.
The service has also installed a software for the processing of passengers at the border to enhance service delivery, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Interior, said these on Tuesday in Parliament while responding to a question.
He said under the border control programme, the GIS had budgeted to provide blocks of residential flats, a two-storey command office and the completion and furnishing of the departure hall at the Aflao border. On the Ministry’s plans to solve the acute residential accommodation and transportation problem facing the Madina Police administration in Accra, he said government was negotiating with the India government to secure a loan for the construction of new flats for the security agencies.
He said the government is also keen on solving the transportation problems facing the police service and that it’s expecting some vehicles from South Africa to be distributed to all districts and units without vehicles.
In a related development, Members of Parliament have called on guardians and parents to live up to their role by instilling discipline into their wards to secure a future for the young generation. They touched on the rising indiscipline among the youth and said they must not be left on their own but should be guided skillfully into the future.
Members were contributing to a statement by Mr Henrich Yeboah, (NPP-Sekyere-East) on the lifestyles of Ghanaian youth abroad. The member said these children were going wayward because of the environment and the little attention given to them.
Mr Bradford Adu, (NPP-Okere), in his contributions, stirred controversy, when he called for a return to the old order by applying the rod, in and out side the school, as contained in the Bible, to bring up children properly.
He was however challenged by Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr Anthony Osei Akoto, who said it, was against the laws of the land and an abuse of the rights of the children to cane them.
