British Council warns of “419” ECOWAS Lottery Raffle

Accra, May 23, GNA – The British Council on Wednesday denied any association with letters claiming that it was working on a 900 million-dollar lottery fund.

“The British Council hereby serves notice that it will not be responsible for any loss of revenue any person(s) incurs as a result of participation in or with this so-called ‘lottery fund’,” it said in a statement issued in Accra.

The statement said the letters had claimed that “the British Council is working in conjunction with an organisation called ECOWAS Community of West Africa States Lottery Secretariat to deploy a lottery fund worth $900,000,000.00 (Nine hundred million dollars).”

“The British Council does not administer funds of the nature described by ECOWAS Community of West Africa States Lottery Secretariat and does not participate in any such activity whatsoever. The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations.
