Tema, May 06, GNA — The Diocesan Bishop of Tema Methodist Church, Very Right Reverend Samuel Achamfuo-Yeboah has called on the government to take measures to stop the practice of abduction of teenagers for labour in other countries.
He considered the practice as not only inhuman but slavery even in this 21st century, saying that the involvement of parents in this callous trade makes it more serious which calls for severe punishment. The Bishop, who expressed the concern at the opening of the 10th annul Synod of the Tema Methodist Diocese held at the Saint Paul’s Methodist Cathedral at Tema impressed on the legislature and human rights activists to champion the cause to stop the practice. The Synod is being held on the theme; “For we walk by faith; not by sight-confident conviction in Christ”.
Rt. Rev. Achamfuo-Yeboah admonished Ghanaians, especially Christians to always take positive decisions whereever they are to achieve positive results to improve their lot.
He appealed to all circuits to contribute towards the construction of a Church project at Prampram which would serve the Diocese. In a brief speech, Mr Andrew Awuni, Presidential Spokesman implored all to have faith in God to go about their duties with confidence saying that, with faith all things are possible before God. He therefore urged Ghanaians to lead Godly lives to reflect on their attitudes and make utterances that would not defame people as this distinguishes them from others.
The Presidential Spokesman stressed the need for all to worship God wholeheartedly and turn to Him in pursuit of their needs. The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Most Rev. Dr Robert Aboagye-Mensah reminded members of the challenges ahead as a church and contribute positively towards its growth and expansion through evangelization.
In a speech read for him, he said the Church is under obligation to share the faith in Christ with the unfaithful and “this calls for the intensification of evangelism, teaching, preaching and healing ministries
so that we would realize our vision of doubling our membership by 2009″. He underscored the need for all Dioceses of the Church to have computer laboratories to enable members to learn the computer and get abreast with the Information Communication Technology (ICT) because the Church cannot lag behind in the ICT technology. 05 May 07
