Acquisition of land for water project in process

Koforidua, March 22, GNA- Mr Daniel Muomaalah, Eastern Regional Chief Manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), on Wednesday said plans for the acquisition of land for the construction of water intake point on the Volta River to improve water supply to Koforidua was yet to be complete.

Speaking at the celebration of the World Water Day in Koforidua, the Eastern Region, on Wednesday, Mr Muomaalah said the project which was inaugurated in August last year when complete, would increase daily water supply to Koforidua by three million gallons.

He explained that the project would bring the total daily water supply to Koforidua to over four million gallons, which would be equivalent to the water requirement of the city by 2020.

Mr Muomaalah said the world water day was an occasion to remind everybody that concrete efforts were needed to provide clean water resources and increase awareness nationwide of the problems associated with the attainment of objective.

Mr Charles Tulashie, Regional Chemist of the GWCL, said it was expensive to treat and produce clean water and urged Ghanaians to pay their water bills promptly to enable the company to acquire chemicals needed for the treatment of water.
