Fire guts Agbogbloshie Market

Accra, Jan. 18, GNA – Fire on Wednesday afternoon gutted the Agbogbloshie Market in the Central Business District of Accra. According to an eyewitness, the fire started at a nearby school before it got to the market.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Justice Aryee, Officer in Charge of Operations, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), said personnel from the Industrial Area Unit of the GNFS were on routine patrol when they were informed of the fire outbreak and that the five-man team was able to bring the fire under control with additional fire extinguishers.

He described the fire as serious and attributed the intensity of it to the cluster of wooden structures at the market and said: “For now it is too early to ascertain the cause of the fire.” 18 Jan. 07
