Birim South District Retired Teachers Association Inaugurated

Akyem Oda, Dec 22, GNA- Mrs. Gifty Apanbil, the Eastern Regional Assistant Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on Friday suggested to the Ministry of Education Science and Sports (MESS) to tap the rich experience of retired teachers when formulating educational policies.

She said retired teachers with so many years of experience in the teaching field had a lot under their sleeves when utilised to the full would promote education in the country.

Mrs Apanbil, who was inaugurating the Birim South District Teachers Association at Akyem Oda commended members for their decision to come together to avoid loneliness, which, she said could kill. She told the teachers that the GNAT had reached that far because of their dedication to duty over the years and said the association would not forget the sacrifices they made.

Mrs Apanbil stressed the commitment of the GNAT to support them when the need arose and urged them to let the association know of their problems.

She reminded the retired teachers that the world was full of problems and advised them not to allow petty issues to weigh them down. Mr Kwabena Bediako, the immediate past District GNAT Secretary advised the retired teachers to put their experiences at the disposal of young teachers to enhance teaching and learning in schools. He urged them to put their experience on the various subjects into books to guide policy markers on education. Mr Bediako who is now the District Hohoe GNAT Secretary appealed to district directors of education to use retired teachers as consultants on education in their areas. The association has Mr J.K. Armah as its chairman with Mr Ebenezer B. Hushie, secretary.
