Accra, Dec. 9, GNA – Minister for Aviation, Ms Gloria Akuffo, on Friday said in as much as the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) should be concerned with adequate security, its management should not lose sight of the need to make it customer friendly. She observed that whilst loopholes in security at the airport were intolerable, customer satisfaction is also of equal great importance to the airport.
Ms Akuffo said this when she inaugurated Security Screening Equipment valued at 340,000 euros at the KIA. The equipment consisted of six baggage X-ray machines, two hold X-ray machines, seven walk through metal detectors and 20 hand-held metal detectors.
She called for the right usage as well as regular maintenance of the equipment in order to make them more durable. Nii Adumansa-Baddoo, Acting Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, said the inauguration formed part of efforts to maximise security at the airport saying, events of September 11 makes it imperative for the heightening of security at all airports. He said the Authority was expecting more state-of-the-art equipment to replace old ones at the KIA.
He noted that above all, workers and stake-holders of the KIA had to be involved in ensuring security. “An effective security system recognises a total system approach,” he added.
