Two technical institutions get new Centre

Agona Kwanyako (C/R), Nov. 21, GNA – The Government is committed to supporting the Technical and Vocational Institutions to enable them contribute meaningfully as a way of bolstering national industrialization, Deputy Minister of Manpower Youth and Employment, Dr. Brempong Yeboah has said.

In a speech read for him at the inauguration of a 55-million- cedi building for 91Hidden Mann Entrepreneurship’ and 91Self Employment, Technical and Vocational Training Centre’ at Agona Kwanyako, he urged all and sundry to contribute towards the establishment of more of such institutions.

The occasion coincided in the 10th Anniversary celebration of the Centre.

Dr. Brempong Yeboah said the National Youth Employment Programme being implemented by the government was expected to put engage 175,000 youth in employment. He urged the youth to form cooperative groups to enable them benefit from loans from the banking institutions under the micro-credit and small loan scheme.

The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, in an address read for him, urged students of the Centre to take their studies seriously to enable them become useful in future. He appealed to management of the Centre to use the Anniversary to take stock of their past performance and plan for the coming years towards its promotion.

The Proprietress of the Centre, Mrs Joana Mensah, commended the Agona district Assembly for contributing materials valued at 15 million cedis towards the building.

She said that the Centre, which started in 1997, was now offering N.V.T.I grades one and two courses, Catering and Home Management, Masonry, Carpentry and Joinery, Dressmaking and others. Mrs Mensah mentioned lack of infrastructure as a major problem facing the centre and appealed to government to assist in the provision of infrastructure to rural Vocational Centres including hers.
