World Vision Int. assists Kwanyako with projects

Ajumako Kwanyako (Central Region) 7th Sept ’99 The chiefs and people of Ajumako-Kwanyako with the assistance of World Vision International (WVI), have within the past nine years spent 500 million cedis on a number of development projects.

The projects include a clinic with three bungalows for the staff, a Day Care Centre, primary school block and a guesthouse.

Nana Kojo Owu V, Odikro of the town announced these at a durbar of the Chiefs and people as part their annual Akwanbo festival.

He commended Dr James Dakyi Clayman, an obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and a citizen of the town for his decision to offer free monthly medical care at the centre.

Nana Owu, who is the Presiding Member of the Ajumako- Enyan-Essian district assembly (AEEDA), said plans are far advance to purchase a stand by generator and a 1000 gallon capacity poly tank estimated to cost about 8 million cedis to ensure regular supply of water to the clinic. The presiding member appealed to AEEDA to help extend electricity to the area and to rehabilitate the Esikado-Kwanyako- Abease feeder road to facilitate the evacuation of farm produce from the area to the marketing centres.

Mr Ekow Spio Garbrah, Chairman of the Finance and Administration sub-committee, on behalf of the District Chief Executive, announced that the assembly has voted 60 million cedis to finance an electricity-self help project to cover all communities in the district. He said the Eshiam-Amia-Osedzi road has been awarded on contract at the cost of 42.4 million cedis.
