Agro-Business and Investment Promotion, Priority-DCE

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Sept. 9, GNA – The District Chief Executive (DCE), for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Mr Emmanuel Adjei-Domson has said that in addition to infrastructure development, agro-business and investment promotion are the priority in the District’s development agenda. This is contained in the address he delivered at a special meeting to dissolve the fourth Assembly of the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakea District Assembly on September 1 2006 at Breman Asikuma.

Mr Adjei-Domson said the Assembly has acquired about 200 hectares of land for chill pepper project envisaged to earn 50 million cedis income to the District Assembly every month from June 2007. He said 35-hectare land has been cleared and planted and it is expected that 10 boxes of the pepper will be harvested this week for export.

The DCE said the project is targeted to export 50 boxes every week by the end of September 2006.

Mr Domson said the chill pepper project has offered direct employment to 83 young men and women at Breman Asikuma, Brakwa and Odoben where land has been acquired.

He announced that the out-going Assembly members would be paid one million cedis ex-gratia award each. 09 Sept. 06
