UNICEF awards scholarship to 354 girls

Dalun (N/R), June 11, GNA – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) last year awarded scholarships totalling 82.6 million cedis to 354 brilliant but needy girls of under as part of its micro-credit scheme in the Tolon/Kumbungu and Savelugu/Nanton Districts. The beneficiary girls comprise first and second time category of primary and Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) girls and third and fourth time category primary and JSS girls.

Dr. Abubakr Al-Hassan, Chairman of the Ghanaian Danish Communities Association (GDCA) announced this during the Annual General Meeting of the Association at Dalun in the Tolon/Kumbungu District on Saturday. He said under the Emergency Social Relief Programme (ESRP) of the GDCA, an amount of 727.5 million cedis was disbursed last year to 1,200 women in 40 groups in the Tamale Rural areas.
