Thirty-six suspected criminals arrested in Kumasi

Kumasi, May 12, GNA – The Asawasi police and the Moshie-Zongo and Aboabo Neighbourhood Watch Committee members at the weekend rounded up 36 suspected drug traffickers and car and mobile phone snatchers operating in the Kumasi metropolis.

The two-hour exercise that was led by the Asawasi Police Commander, Superintendent Paul Ayittey, was aimed at flushing out criminals operating around New Tafo, Moshie-Zongo, Old Tafo, Tafo-Nhyiaeso, Sepe-Aprapram and Columbia, all suburbs of Kumasi. A statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammed Tanko of the Regional Police Public Relations Unit, said large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found on some of the suspects together with smoking pipes.

It said after a screening exercise, 12 of the suspects were found to be culpable and have been charged and would soon be put before the court.

Those charged are Ishmael Appiah, 20, Philip Kwasi Gyamfi, 18, Ebenezer Donkor, Ernest Kwasi Sarfo, 32, Kwaku Adu-Gyamfi, 23, and Malema Adongo, 18.

The rest are Yussif Shaibu, 28, Eugene Maasole, 22, Baba Sule, 22, Abubakari Saddick, 20, Sule Yabony, 21 and Musah Duah Mohammed, 20.
