CPP salutes Ghanaian workers on eve of May Day

Accra, April 30, GNA- The Convention People’s Party (CPP), on the eve of this year’s May Day celebration, has urged Government to address the demands of Ghanaian health workers and provide better working conditions for civil servants.

The CPP said the unrealistic minimum wage is also a matter that needs urgent attention, and added that without adequate remuneration for the working people in all sectors of the economy, Government policies and programmes for national growth and development will fail. In a statement signed and issued in Accra, by Prof. Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary, the CPP said the CPP is concerned about the worsening economic plight of the working people with its attendant labour unrests.

It said the recent demonstrations by civil servants and the strike action by health workers for better working conditions, with the attendant loss of human lives and material resources, and the unresolved demands for realistic living wages are indications of failed economic policies and programmes.

The Party observed that such failed policies and programmes have adversely affected the nations capacity to generate the necessary funds to adequately remunerate workers.

The CPP saluted all workers and entreated them to resolve to protect consolidate and expand workers right.

“We must also increase or resolve to defend the rule of law, protect the democratic gains made and indeed strive to enhance democracy. The best protection for the rights of workers is an open and democratic society

“We believe that a stronger, more unified and conscious labour front will contribute to a more congenial industrial atmosphere”, the Party said.

The Party assured Ghanaians that consistent to its policy, it would continue to explore avenues to support workers in their just cause to seek job security and adequate livings wages.
