Kasoa, March 15, GNA – Over 1,000 pupils and their teachers live precariously as their school building, constructed completely out of wood materials, could be caught up in flames, should there be a mistake by anybody playing with fire.
The school, Saint Martha Basic School at Kpormeitey, near Kasoa has most of its structure eaten by termites, with its windows and doors hanging loosely, as the wooden frames could no longer hold the hinges. The wawa boards used in the construction of the school some eight years ago had become so weak that the building could fall on the children at the slightest rainstorm or fire outbreak.
The deplorable condition of the school building had created a fertile ground for harbouring thieves and other undesirable elements, because the doors and windows cannot be locked.
Source close to the school said school had written to the Awutu-Efutu-Senya District Assembly for help, since the condition and environment of the school are not congenial for teaching and learning.
