Amsterdam Southeast Council Donates To Sunyani Municipal Hospital

Sunyani, March 15, GNA – The government has again been asked to waive taxes on items donated to vital institutions by philanthropists to facilitate clearance from the ports for use.

Mr Francis Manu-Gyan, Local Representative of Brong-Ahafo Youth Association (BAYA)(Amsterdam) made the appeal when the Amsterdam Southeast Council donated 2.5 billion cedis worth of medical equipment to the Sunyani Municipal Hospital at Sunyani. He said often vital equipment donated to some institutions was left uncollected at the ports for months. The items, which included medical, surgical and office equipment, were donated to the hospital through BAYA.

Mr Manu-Gyan said the donation is in fulfillment of a pledge made by the Mayor of the Council, Ms Elvira Sweet during a visit to the Brong Ahafo region two years ago. He commended the efforts of the two organizations in boosting healthcare delivery in the municipal area and also praised natives in the Diaspora who were working on the development agenda of the region. Ms Sweet said the donation was to reciprocate the warm reception accorded her during her visit to the region. She said the Sunyani Municipal Assembly and the Amsterdam Council were to enter into a Sisters City Relations to their mutual benefit.
