Five to contest Tamale Central NPP primaries

Tamale, March 15, GNA – Five people including a woman have filed their nominations to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries for the Tamale Central by-election slated for April 4.

They are: Hajia Amama Shaibu, Akilu Shaibu, Shaani Shaibu, Abdul Samed Haruna Atta and Mumuni Hamdawei.

Mr Shamuna Ghazi, Tamale Central Constituency Secretary of the party told the GNA in an interview in Tamale on Wednesday that the primaries would be conducted on Thursday March 16, to select one candidate to contest the parliamentary seat, which has become vacant following the resignation of Professor Wayo Seini, former NDC Member of Parliament.

Mr Ghazi said the NPP was going to prove critics wrong by winning the seat convincingly to pave the way for the major victory in 2008. So far only the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come out with a candidate to contest the by-election.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) are yet to come out with their candidates. Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) would close nominations on Friday, March 17.
