Volta Regional Minister warns contractors in the region

Kete-Krachi (V/R), March 02, GNA – Mr Kofi Dzamesi, the Volta Regional Minister, has told contractors who have been awarded contracts in the region to execute them with diligence or loose them. “The fact that you have won a bidding and given the contract does not mean you have secured it,” he said.

Mr Dzamesi said this when he inspected work on classroom blocks, dormitories and a dinning hall for the Kete-Krachi Secondary School on Tuesday.

He expressed disappointment at the delay of work and blamed the consultants for not being up to the task given them. Mr Dzamesi said work was scheduled to be completed within 52 weeks but is still at the starting level after two years. He said most of the contractors, having been paid or given mobilization fee, leave and never come back to the site. Mr Dzamesi appealed to school authorities not to shield those contractors but expose them to be sanctioned and the contracts given to competent ones.

“You must not entertain any fear, notify the Regional Co-coordinating Council about their non-performance and we shall sack them,” he said. Mr Thomas Fordjour Ababio, the Headmaster of the school, said the delay of work on the project was affecting teaching and learning. “For the past two years, students have been taking their meals under trees among animals, which is unhygienic. The situation had also forced the administration to run shifts due to lack of classrooms and admission into the school has also reduced drastically”.

The Kete Krachi Secondary School is among the four senior secondary schools selected in the Volta Region to be upgraded. Work has almost been completed at Kadjebi, Peki and Adidome Secondary schools.
