Court remands three for possessing narcotic drugs

Accra, Jan. 24, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded three persons for one week each when they appeared before it for possessing narcotic drugs.

The court presided over by Mr Justice Frank Manu, a High Court Judge, with an additional responsibility on the case as a Circuit Court Judge, did not take the plea of Abdulai Sole, a trader, Kofi Ackaah Mensah, a farmer and Kwashie Nyarko, a carpenter.

They would reappear before the court on Tuesday, January 31. The case for the Prosecution was that on January 19 2006, acting upon a tip-off, Police personnel from the Regional Criminal Investigations Department, arrested the three accused persons in a swoop at Odawna, near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

The Prosecution stated that the Police found one wrapper of dried leaves each on Sole and Nyarko, while they retrieved a quantity of the substance from Mensah.

The Prosecution stated further that upon interrogation, Sole and Nyarko denied any knowledge of the drug, telling the Police that their friends might have left it behind. Mensah, however, claimed ownership of what was found on him, the Prosecution said.

The substance has been forwarded to the Police Forensic Unit Laboratory for analytical examination. 24 Jan. 06
