Butcher jailed for goat theft

Techiman (B/A), June 16, GNA– A Techiman circuit tribunal has sentenced a 41-year-old butcher to six months’ imprisonment in-hard labour for stealing a goat valued at 50,000 cedis.

Iddi Mohammed from Akomadan in the Ashanti region pleaded guilty to stealing the goat whose owner is yet to be identified.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Mary Asunta, told the tribunal that on the evening of June 12, Mohammed was spotted by drivers offering a black she-goat for sale at the Techiman-Tamale lorry station to a chop bar operator.

She said when the drivers confronted the accused as to how he came by the goat he claimed that it belonged to Mr Mohammed Tahiru, his father.at Akomadan zongo.

When the police took Mohammed to Akomadan, the alleged father denied ownership of the goat, Chief Inspector Asunta added.

The police were instructed to keep the goat until June 18.

If by that date, it has not been claimed, it should be brought to the court again.
