NDC activists and sympathisers urged to show more commitment

Sunyani (B/A) Jan.11, GNA – The Brong-Ahafo Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on members of the party, activists, supporters and sympathizers to remain united, calm, resolute and steadfast in the face of resignations of some executive members.

In a statement signed by Mr. Justice Samuel Adjei, Regional Secretary, they cautioned them against “preoccupation with the difficult challenge emanating from these resignations.”

“There is no doubt that the NDC as a party is going through a complex political tradition that requires intellectual, scientific and sophisticated ideas or tactics to deal with the situation to relieve us from our present predicament,” the statement stated.

It said “We should accept and discuss the challenges posed by the resignations passionately and in a reconciliatory mood to enable the party plan for victory in 2008. We should refrain from the issuance of statements on matters concerning the party in the region.”

In another development, Mr. Mohammed Kwaku Doku, former District Chief Executive for Asunafo district in the Brong-Ahafo region in a statement said “The Government is using its powers to subvert the rule of law and undermining the country’s infant democracy.”

He said Ghana’s democracy could be sustained and respected when the justice system was strengthened to play its constitutional role effectively and efficiently without interference.

Mr. Doku, a development consultant, called for an independent Attorney General, from the Executive and a Judiciary that would be independent in its financial and administrative operations.

He appealed to the Government and Parliament to initiate measures to amend the country’s criminal laws to facilitate formation of private investigative organizations and consultancies that would compete with state agencies to ensure efficiency, transparency and fairness in the criminal investigative procedure. 11 Jan.06
