Four Nigeriens, Ghanaian arrested for dealing in black market

Tema, Dec. 24, GNA – The Tema Police on Friday warned that anyone caught dealing in black-market would be made to face the law. Giving the warning, when four Nigeriens and a Ghanaian were arrested for dealing in the illegal business on Friday at Tema, Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, Tema Regional Police Public Affairs Officer reminded the public that the law making it illegal for dealing in the exchange of foreign currency was still in force and that any one caught would be made to face the law.

He advised that people in their own interest to desist from buying or selling of foreign currencies from individuals and deal with the designated Forex Bureaux or the financial institutions, because the police are wide awake to track down on criminals of all categories. The four Niger nationals are Mamoudu Adam, who was found with, 16,000 CFA and 500 Naira, Yaw Adamu with 2,170,000 cedis, Musa Biboko had 73,000 CFA, one million cedis and 3,000 Naira and Hassan Haruna was also keeping 3,745,000 naira and 15,000 CFA.

The Ghanaian among them Yussif Ibrahim had in his custody 13,160,000 cedis.

Chief Inspector Nketia-Yeboah said all the suspects have been remanded in custody and would be put before court for dealing in illegal foreign currency. In another development four persons including a lady were also arrested for peddling in drugs at various places known for narcotic dealers.

They are Ibrahim, Paa Kow, Benjamin Tetteh Obaani and Benedicta Mensah in whose custody were retrieved quantity of substance suspected to be cocaine, dried leaves also suspected to be Indian hemp, inhaling pipes, eight boxes of matches, and 27 packets of 555 cigarettes.

They have also been placed in custody.
