Land tenure system, stumbling block to agricultural development- DCE

Atonsu-Nsuta (Ash), Dec 7, GNA – The District Chief Executive for Sekyere West in Ashanti, Mr Haruna Oppong-Boateng has identified the age-old land tenure system as a major stumbling block to large-scale agricultural development in the area. In view of this, he made an appeal to traditional rulers and landowners to put in place measures to reform the mode of land acquisition to attract potential investors to agriculture.

Mr Oppong-Boateng stated this last Friday when he addressed the Districts Best Farmers Day Celebration at Atonsu-Nsuta. The DCE noted that as key players in the agricultural sector, chiefs and landowners have an important role to play in complementing government efforts to modernise agriculture. He said, it was therefore, important for all stakeholders to collectively work together to increase food and cash crop production, ensure food security and boost agro-based industries to create employment.
