New Ga East DCE sworn-in

Accra, Dec. 7, GNA – The Ga East District had the potential to internally generate more income than allocations from the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF), the District Chief Executive, Mr Kofi Allotey said on Wednesday. Mr Allotey, who was speaking after he had been sworn into office, noted that no district had achieved economic independence but the Ga East Assembly was poised to work hard to stand on its own.

“We need to employ scientific methods to enhance our revenue generation. We need to exploit all the human and material resources that abound in the District, ensure transparency, fairness, accountability and good governance,” Mr Allotey said after the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheikh Ibrahim C. Quaye had administered the oaths of office to him in Accra. He said they needed to motivate the members, officers and workers of the district assembly and attract investors to the area.

Mr Allotey called on the media to be partners in development by ensuring peace and unity and not to be used as channels through which disgruntled persons would create disaffection and disunity. He urged members of the assembly to guard against waging press battles against those they did not agree with on certain issues. Sheikh Quaye urged the new DCE to unify the members to ensure that development was carried out without any rancour and bitterness. He urged the DCE to fast track the national health insurance scheme to ensure that as many people as possible registered.

The Regional Minister noted that the election of the presiding member and confirmation of the DCE had been characterized by mistrust. Sheikh Quaye, therefore, advised Mr Allotey to co-operate with everybody especially civil servants, saying it was only when he treated them as partners that he would succeed.
