Anyaa residents lament about rising spate of armed robbery

Accra, Nov. 20, GNA – Residents at Anyaa in the Greater Accra Region have called on the Ghana Police Service to tackle the numerous cases of armed robberies in the area.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, at a public forum, Mr Michael Strong Bow, Organiser of the Union of Anyaa residents said the robbery, which had escalated three months ago had left anxious residents either injured or robbed in fear.

He said the area was also affected by number of land litigations, which was threatening life and property.

Mr Bow said the litigation had brought a number of development projects to a standstill since land guards brutalise people in an attempt to protect disputed lands.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Nuhu Alhassan Jango, officer with oversight responsibility over Anyaa, who was the special guest at the forum, asked aggrieved parties in the land disputes not to take the law into their hands but must endeavour to report all cases to the law enforcement agencies.

He spoke against people who impersonate the police and advised the people to insist on the arrest warrant when any person posing as a police officer approaches them. DSP Jango advised the residence to form a watchdog committee to guard against armed robbery.
