Poultry products from Belgium to be destroyed

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has directed the Ghana Standards Board (GSB) and Food and Drugs Board (FDB) to undertake a survey of shops and cold stores throughout the country to seize and destroy chicken, eggs and other poultry products from Belgium.

This follows the ban on the importation of Belgium chicken and eggs, which have been declared unsafe for human consumption. Mr. J. S Dalrymple-Hayfron, Chief Director, said the Ministry assures the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and would not hesitate to extend the ban to poultry products from other countries if necessary.

The Ministry appealed to importers and shop owners to co-operate with officials of the GSB and the FDB. The statement advised the public to alert the Ministry and GSB or FDB about the presence of these products in shops and cold stores.
