Hohoe, Nov 02, GNA – Mr John-Peter Amewu, the Hohoe District Chief Executive, has called on Ghanaians to adopt the maintenance habit as a means of giving value to investment and development efforts of the government.
”Much of the drain on the public purse is due to lack of maintenance of state property and infrastructure,” he said. Mr Amewu said this at the inauguration of a 189 million-cedi Nubui Guest House at Fodome Ahor in the Hohoe District.
The project, funded by the British High Commission under its small grant scheme, involved the conversion of a former vocational school donated by the Ho Diocese of the Catholic Church. Mr Amewu said because of the neglect of the Peduase Lodge over the years the government had been compelled to undertake its rehabilitation at great financial cost to the state.
He suggested that there should be a reorientation of the citizenry on maintenance beginning from schools to re-awaken the national consciousness on the matter because “it pays to maintain an edifice in order to prolong its lifespan”.
