Atwima GNFS and NADMO draw outreach programme

Nkawie (Ash), Oct 20, GNA – The Atwima district office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in conjunction with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have drawn up an outreach fire prevention education programme in both Atwima-Nwabiagya and Mponua districts.

Under the programme, personnel from the two organizations will visit communities and educate rural fire fighters on how to combat certain negative practices like indiscriminate setting of bushfires and water pollution before the onset of the harmattan season. Mr. Samuel Asare, Atwima District Fire Officer, who disclosed this to the GNA at Nkawie, said that a recent monitoring exercise embarked upon by the Service and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in some communities along the Offin river basin had shown a drastic reduction in the spate of water pollution.

He appealed to the various communities to guard against the activities of certain unscrupulous elements to avoid the possible outbreak of an epidemic.

Mr. Michael Manu, chairman of the District Fire Volunteer Task force, appealed to the district assembly to provide them with the necessary logistical support to enhance their work.
