Chief appeals for rehabilitation of bridge on river Seiya

Breman Beedum (C/R), Oct.19 GNA – The chief and people of Breman Beedum in the Central Region have appealed to the Government to rehabilitate the bridge on River Seiya.

Nana Kwaku Essong, II, chief of the town made the appeal at a meeting with the elders and people at Breman Beedum on Tuesday. Nana Essong said the bridge built about 40 years ago to link the area with Assin Manso and Assin Fosu was in a deplorable state and had become a death trap to pedestrians and motorists.

He cited an incident last year when some mourners returning from a funeral had their vehicle plunged into the river, with most of them receiving injuries.

Nana Essong said more than 100 vehicles used the bridge daily to Agona Swedru, Winneba, Mankessim and Accra. He regretted that the district assembly had failed to respond to their appeals to rehabilitate the bridge to save lives and property.
