Sub-Traditional Council bans invocation of gods

Asokore-Mampong (Ash), Oct 04, GNA – The Asokore-Mampong Sub-Traditional Council in the Kumasi Metropolis has banned the invocation of gods by the people to settle differences. The measure is geared towards encouraging aggrieved parties to use the proper means of resolving differences and described the invocation of gods as negative and had the tendency to create tension and animosity among the people.

Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, Asokore-Mamponghene, said this when he inaugurated a 20-seat place of convenience at Asokore-Mampong, a suburb of Kumasi on Sunday.

The facility was constructed at a cost of 128 million cedis and funded by Nana Ansah Debrah.

He said after a consultative meeting with his elders recently, the council decided that any person who goes contrary to the order would slaughter a sheep and pay a fine ranging from 100,000 cedis to 300,000 cedis.

Nana Ansah Debrah said in a bid to step up the teaching of mathematics and English at the basic level, the council would soon provide the Asokore-Mampong M/A Junior Secondary School with three colour television sets.

This would enable the pupils and students to access the President’s Special Initiative (PSI) on distance learning that are telecast regularly on Ghana Television. He said until the capitation grant was introduced last month the council had, from 2001, granted scholarships to 72 brilliant but needy pupils in the area to promote education at the basic level.
