NDC youth call for cease fire in the party

Kumasi, Sept 28, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Youth Wing and Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called for a cease fire in the media among the rank and file, particularly the leadership of the party, on issues relating to the so-called row in the party. The two bodies said the media should not be the platform for solving mere disagreement amongst leading members but allow laid down structures to work in accordance with the party’s constitution. A statement issued by the two bodies in Kumasi on Tuesday called on the Council of Elders under the chairmanship of kformer President Jerry John Rawlings to intervene to resolve the issues as soon as practicable in accordance with Article 25 (3B) of the party’s constitution.

It said there was despondency amongst the rank and file of the party, particularly the Youth Wing and TEIN, who are the foot soldiers who are no longer prepared to tolerate the media war and wrangling in the party since the NDC would form the next government in January 2009. The statement said the NDC youth and TEIN have observed the twist of facts and half-truths about the NDC by a section of the media and the complete defensive posture and the spinning by some media practitioners and condemned this, describing it as unprofessional. “We the Youth Wing and TEIN of the Ashanti Region would like to caution those in the media who want to sacrifice the ethics of the profession for sensational and unsubstantiated reportage to leave and join us or better put, leave politics to the politicians and journalism to the journalists”.

“We therefore urged the rank and file to stay united and also embark on a membership drive for a landslide victory in the 2008 general elections”.
