Asawase MP presents furniture to schools

Kumasi, Sept. 26, GNA – Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, has supplied sets of furniture valued at 27 million cedis to six basic schools in his constituency. The furniture comprised 300 mono and dual desks, 40 library chairs, 15 library tables, as well as two library shelves.

The beneficiary schools were Asokore-Mampong Catholic Primary and Junior Secondary School (JSS), Saint Theresa’s JSS, Issifiya Islamic School, and the Sepe-Timpom Primary and JSS.

Presenting the furniture at separate durbars at Asokore Mampong, Asawase and Sepe-Timpom in the Kumasi metropolis on Monday, Alhaji Mubarak said the items were procured from his share of the MP’s Common Fund.

He said he had decided to commit a greater percentage of his share of the Common Fund to the provision of educational facilities for schools in the constituency because of the importance of education to society.

Alhaji Mubarak said apart from using his common fund for educational development, he would also explore other avenues including the Embassies and NGOs to assist him in carrying out expansion and rehabilitation works on the school buildings.

“To help motivate teachers to give of their best, I also plan providing some incentive package to hardworking and dedicated ones at the end of each year”, he added.

Receiving the items at Asokore-Mampong, Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah II, Asokore-Mamponghene, lauded the MP for his gesture and assured him that the items would be put into good use so as to justify why they have been donated to them.

He said the only way they could show appreciation to the MP for his good works is to ensure that the people send their children to school. Nana Debrah said he had already bought three television sets to donate to schools in the community.

Earlier at Asawase, Nana Ampomah Antwi, Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA) Chairman of the St. Theresah’s cluster of schools commended the MP for the gesture and appealed to him to help them construct a fence wall round the schools to protect them against intruders. 26 Sep. 05
