Upper East Police Training School still needs rehabilitation

Pwalugu (U/E), Sept. 6, GNA – The rehabilitation of the Upper East Regional Police Training School at Pwalugu has come to a standstill. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Godfred Obimpeh Akpalu, Officer Commander of the Training School disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Pwalugu.

ASP Akpalu said the school has a capacity of accommodating 1,000 students at a time and lamented that the rehabilitation work being put on hold was not helping in the provision of accommodation for both lecturers and students.

He said the ten low cost houses could have accommodated many of the lecturers who commute daily from Bolgatanga to Pwalugu. He expressed concern about the acute water shortage on campus, which hampers effective teaching and learning and pleaded with government and other benevolent non-governmental organisations to assist the school with water supply.

He said the school had only one Land Rover, which was used to service the kitchen and for administrative journeys to Accra. He noted that a bus would be of good help to the school and appealed to the authorities concerned to come to the aid of the school. He was full of praise for the students in their performances, both academically and in extra-curricular activities.

He said the school came first in the 2005 National Police Training Schools’ Athletics and in tug-of-war competitions. 06 Sept. 05
