NGO organises forum on community development and accountability

Jirapa, Aug. 27, GNA- Rural Aid Action Programme, a local non- governmental organization (NGO), has organised a one-day forum on community development and accountability for about 80 selected individuals, groups and departmental heads in the Jirapa/Lambussie district at Jirapa.

The forum was also aimed at concretising the people on their fundamental human rights and freedoms and how to solve social, economic, and political problems facing them.

Mr Evans Sinkari, Co-ordinator of the NGO, said the main objective of the forum was to empower local communities to enable them to hold government organisations and other stakeholders in development, responsible and accountable.

He said the NGO would intensify efforts at mobilizing adequate resources to enable it work to facilitate regular interaction between the people and the district assemblies and decentralised departments in the Upper West Region.

Mr Abdulai Jaladeen, Jirapa/Lambussie District Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) reminded the people that the rights and freedoms of the citizen were synonymous to responsibilities of the citizen for national development and entreated local communities to participate actively in the development of their areas.
