Businessman defrauds Trader of 4,500 dollars

Accra, Aug. 11, GNA – The owner of OAK Travel and Tours at Adabraka Francis Kusi on Thursday appeared before an Accra Regional Tribunal for defrauding a trader of 4,500 dollars.

He collected the money under the pretext of securing travelling documents for the trader’s niece to travel to America. Kusi pleaded not guilty to defrauding Mr Kwaku Duah by false pretences, and is on a 40 million-cedi bail.

The next adjourned date for hearing of the case is September 14. The Prosecution told the tribunal that sometime in November last year, Mr Duah, who wanted his niece to travel to the United States, approached Kusi to obtain travelling documents for her. Kusi charged 4,500 dollars and after collecting the money, he promised to get the documents ready within one week.

He failed to honour his promise, and kept on giving vain promises. On July 7 this year, Mr Duah reported the matter to the Police, and when Kusi was arrested, he admitted the offence.

He pleaded with the Police, who gave him time to refund the money. Kusi neither refunded the money, nor reported to the Police as ordered, and was, therefore, put before court.
