Adansi South district inaugurates Mutual HIS

New Edubiase (Ash), Aug 3, GNA – Over 27,000 people have registered with the Adansi South District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, Mr Richmond Sarkodie, the Scheme Manager has announced. He said 11,000 out of the registered members qualified to benefit from the scheme whose operations started on August 1. Speaking at the inauguration of the scheme at New Edubiase at the weekend, Mr Sarkodie said premiums amounting to 120 million cedis have so far been paid.

He advised those who have not yet registered with the scheme to do so in their own interest since they will have to pay their own medical bills when they attend hospitals if they failed to register with the scheme.

Dr. Kofi Asare, Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, advised Ghanaians not to attach politics to operations of the scheme since it had come to serve individuals and not political parties. He commended the immediate past District Chief Executive, Mr Dominic Yeboah for the tremendous efforts he put in to make the scheme’s reality in the district.

Dr. Joseph Bonney, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), asked those who have as yet not registered with the scheme to do so since they will pay the full cost of bills when they attend hospitals.

He asked those who have registered and been issued with their identification (ID) cards to keep the cards very well since they were “their visas to health care.” Aug. 03 05
