Accra Mayor hosts reception for c’wealth judges

Accra, Aug 03, GNA – Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri-Blankson, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, last night hosted a dinner in honour of members of the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association (CMJA) who are attending a conference in Accra.

Mr George Kinsgley Acquah, the Chief Justice, chiefs, Most Rev Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, the Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Accra, ministers of state and religion, members of parliament, diplomats and assembly members attended the dinner.

Mr Adjiri-Blankson said in a speech that Accra, from humble beginnings of a largely fishing community, has grown into a metropolitan, regional and national capital and is increasingly being propelled into the capital city of the West African sub-region because of an assured political stability.

He attributed the phenomenal transformation to the practice of democratic constitutionalism and the rule of law practiced by the people.

Mr Adjiri-Blankson acknowledged the contribution of traditional authorities that had helped mobilize the people for development and the law enforcement agencies, especially the judiciary that had helped to bring law and order to the metropolis.

He said Accra had entered into sister city relations with other metropolitan cities abroad and appealed to the delegates to encourage their governments to forge links with Accra. Lord David Hope, the President of the association, thanked Mayor for the reception.

Mr Justice Acquah said the Judicial Service would pursue reforms, including computerization. Toasts were proposed and drank for the health of President John Agyekum Kufuor and Queen Elizabeth of Britain. 03 Aug 05
