Nkoranza (B/A) July 31, GNA – Mr. Akoto Appau, Deputy National Coordinator in-charge of operations and planning of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has made a three-day working visit to the Brong Ahafo Region to inspect the farms of Disaster Volunteer Groups in communities in the districts.
He visited Dormaa Ahenkro, Berekum, Asunafo North, Asunafo South, Wenchi, Tano North, Tano South and Nkoranza Districts. At Nkoranza, Mr. Appau inspected the maize farms of the volunteers at Nkwabeng and Akonkonti-Odumase to find out how far the NADMO agricultural inputs support for the groups were used and the impact it had on the people.
Addressing the NADMO staff and the volunteers later, Mr. Appau stressed the need for them to work hard in combating bushfires in the communities which have become an annual canker saying they are man-made and preventable.
He explained that the agricultural inputs support was aimed at assisting the volunteers to improve upon their economic status in order that they would be able to manage their families effectively. Mr. Akoto Appau called on the youth in the communities to organise themselves into volunteer groups and to benefit from the agricultural input support to enhance their lots.
Mr. Alfred Attah -Yeboah, Nkoranza District NADMO Coordinator announced that five volunteer groups in the district have cultivated 40 hectares maize farm and that they are growing well.
He expressed his appreciation the hard work and efforts of the volunteers as they used the inputs on their farms and said they would benefit from their toils to improve upon their living standards. He said the Nkoranza NADMO Secretariat works closely with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), the Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Health Service and Religious Bodies and they have been very supportive to the Secretariat towards the realization of their objectives.
Mr. Attah-Yeboah said his outfit was soliciting for financial support from the District Assembly and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) towards the establishment of a tree nursery project to prepare seedlings for supply to communities to plant and check rainstorms.
