Techiman lorry station to get market complex

Techiman (B/A) July 21, GNA – A 2.430 billion cedis two-storey block to contain 81 market stalls is to be constructed at the Techiman-Tamale lorry station through the build-operate-own and-transfer (BOOT) system.

Under the BOOT agreement, a beneficiary will pay 30 million cedis for a storeroom.

A joint memorandum of understanding on the project was signed by 14 store owners at the Tamale lorry station and a joint committee of Techiman Municipal Assembly’s technical committee and the urban council market development committee, in Techiman. It was agreed that all traders who owned kiosks and containers at the Tamale lorry station should vacate their premises by the end of July 31, this year or face sanctions.

The memorandum of understanding said any kiosk or container that would be towed to the Assembly premises after the expiry date will be at the expense of the owner before release. Mr. Twumasi Ampofo, Assemblyman for Abanim electoral area and member of the joint committee, assured the traders of the determination of the Assembly and the urban council to promote businesses in the Municipality.

He said the two bodies cherished the survival of their businesses so they could assist in poverty reduction for meaningful development. Mr. Alhassan Abu Mozulu and Nana Yeboah, secretary and executive member of the Kiosk owners association, respectively, promised that members would abide by the negotiations for the construction and implementation of BOOT at the station.
