UN MDG advisor in Ghana for visit

Accra, July 7, GNA – Professor Jeffrey Sachs, UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on the Millennium Development Goals (MGG), arrived in Accra on Thursday, for a four-day visit.

Speaking to the media at the Kotoka International Airport Prof Sachs said he would meet key MDG stakeholders in the country and identify areas the project could assist in achieving the goals.

Prof Sachs, who is also the Director of the Project, stated that since Ghana was one of the promising countries to meet the Goals his visit would explore areas of increased investment and financial support. He would meet government officials in the financial sector, civil society and staff of UN agencies.

The Special Advisor was met by the acting UN Representative in Ghana, Dr Melville George and officials of the world body in the country. Ghana is a signatory to the MDGs and is committed to achieving progress through the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy. 07 July 05
