The Hohoe District MHIS launched

Hohoe, July 3, GNA- The Hohoe District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) was on Thursday launched with a call on opinion leaders to assist in the implementing of the plan to make it acceptable to the people.

Mr Henry Tayviah, Volta Regional co-ordinator of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), who made the call, requested stakeholders including non-governmental organisation to educate the people about the importance of the scheme.

He said: “the NHIS is the best thing to happen to Ghanaians so far as financing healthcare delivery is concerned”.

Mr Tayviah said the staff of the Ghana Health Service who would be the main service providers under the scheme, were being trained to enable them to dispense good quality service when the scheme fully took-off.

Togbega Gabusu VI, Paramount chief of the Gbi Traditional Area, observed that many Ghanaians could not afford the cost of orthodox health delivery and resorted to the use of herbal medicines and therefore urged the people to embrace the NHIS.

Mr John Peter Amewu, Hohoe District Chief Executive, gave the assurance that the assembly would assist in the implementation of the NHIS.

Meanwhile a 10-member Board chaired by Mr James K. Fie and a six-member Management Team headed by Mr Lawrence Sakada were inaugurated.
