Suspected armed robbers walk into the arms of police

Kumasi, July 2, GNA – Three people suspected to be armed robbers at dawn on Saturday walked into the arms of the Asokwa police and have been placed in custody awaiting investigations. The three, whose names are being withheld by the police for security reasons are two men and a woman.

Briefing the press on the arrest, Chief Superintendent J. Owusu-Agyemang, the Asokwa District Police Commander, said three people, two men and a woman drove to the station with a complaint that a police guard at the Atonsu branch of the Bosomtwe Rural Bank had hit the mouth of one of them with the butt of his gun. Chief Supt Owusu-Agyemang said during interrogation, the officer became suspicious and decided that the taxi they drove to the station be searched. He said when the officer got up to go and search the taxi, the two men attacked him in a bid to prevent him from searching the vehicle but they were overpowered and arrested.

The District Police Commander said when the vehicle was searched, jewellery, one action pump gun, a shot gun, 42 cartridges, three masks, two black helmets, black uniforms sewn like the uniform of the police with corporal and sergeant stripes on them. Chief Supt. Owusu-Agyemang said the suspects would be arraigned for public identification after investigations had been completed.
