Man fined for child neglect

Begoro, June 24, GNA – A 30-year-old farmer, Kofi Boye, has been fined 720,000 by the Begoro District Court for neglecting his two-and-half-year old son, David Nyarko. He pleaded guilty to a charge of child neglect.

The court ordered Boye to provide two pairs of school uniforms, dresses and a pair of shoes for the child and also pay 180,000 monthly towards his upkeep. The court further ordered that the accused should be remanded in police custody for one week and be re-arraigned before it if he failed to pay the fine.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector William Kwasi Nkrumah told the court that the accused was summoned to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) a month ago by the mother of the baby but he refused to honour the summon. CHRAJ then referred the case to the police.
