Vakpo (V/R), June 15, GNA – Mr Kofi Dzamesi, the Volta Regional Minister, on Monday gave Simeon Construction Company, a Worawora-based firm in the Volta Region, three months to complete work on a 250-million-cedi dormitory block for the Vakpo Secondary School or face the consequences.
Work on the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) funded project had come to a halt.
Mr Dzamesi reassured the students and staff of the school that the government was committed to see to the completion of the project. He said “Positive Change Chapter Two” has no place for lazy people and urged such people to change for the better.
The Regional Minister said his administration would not tolerate laziness, truancy and negative tendencies that would thwart the development programme of the region.
Mr Samuel K. Anomah, the Headmaster of the school, said the school, though 40 years old, lacks infrastructure including dining and assembly halls, library facility, staff and student accommodation.
He said the school’s reception has been converted into a temporary dinning hall, while a hostel meant for 100 students is now accommodating 350 students. Mr Anomah said with the introduction of full-scale science programme next academic year, there would be pressure on the facilities and appealed for more financial assistance from the GETFund and other donors to improve facilities in the school.
