Court remands ex-soldier in custody for attempted fraud

Kumasi, June 15, GNA – An ex-soldier who attempted to defraud his former instructor of 200,000 cedis was on Tuesday remanded in police custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Ex-Lance Corporal John Amihere, formerly of the Fourth Battalion of Infantry in Kumasi, pleaded guilty to the charge and will re-appear on June 21.

Police Inspector Seth Amofa told the court that the accused presented himself to Ex-Sergeant Kojo Fiamegu as a Captain from the Castle Annex. He told Fiamegu that there was would be recruitment at his office for security supervisors and demanded 200,000 cedis from him (Fiamegu) to secure him a job at the Castle Annex.

The Prosecutor said Fiamegu became suspicious, recognised that he had taught the accused before and handed him to the police.
