Driver convicted for assaulting passenger

Twifo Praso (C/R) May 28, GNA- Kwabena Boakye, a driver has been fined 400,000 cedis by the Twifo-Praso Magistrate Court for assaulting a passenger.

Boakye who pleaded guilty would go to jail for two months in default.

The court presided over by Mr Joseph Blay, also ordered the accused to compensate the victim, Mr Thomas Morkley, whom he inflicted a deep cut on his forehead, with 200,000 cedis or serve an additional month in jail.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector George Okine told the court that on May 24, Boakye drove recklessly on the Twifo-Praso road and nearly ran into the vehicle on which Mr Morkley was travelling. He said as a result, a quarrel ensued between the two drivers during which Boakye’s mate, Kweku Mensah, spat on the driver, and passengers.

Chief inspector Okine said Boakye alighted from his vehicle and hit Mr Morkley on the forehead.
