NPP National Organiser advises media

Sunyani, May 26, GNA – Mr. Laud Commey National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday advised the Media to be circumspect in their reportage.

False information and publications could create confusion and destabilise the peace of the nation, he noted.

Mr. Commey gave the advice at a press conference organised as part of his working visit to the region to meet party officials to review and discuss issues concerning the party.

He urged the Press to seek for clarifications and to listen to other version of the party from party officials before publishing them. Most of the stories that appeared in the papers turned out to be untrue after investigations into the matter, he said, adding that in such situation the persons’ hard worn reputation had already been tarnished.

He said the party recognized the media as partners in development and would not do anything that could destroy the cordial relationship between government and the media.

He said government is aware of the hardship that the people are going through and is working hard to ensure that they would enjoy a better living.

He commended the press for their immense contribution in ensuring peace during the December elections.

Mr. Laud Commey stated that the party is trying to correct all mistakes committed and to look for a way forward to ensure that the party retains power in the 2008 elections.

Mr. Ignatius Baaffour-Awuah, deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister urged the Media to take cognisance of the importance of their profession and play their role effectively to maintain the peace of the nation. He said the Regional Coordinating Council would come out with a date to settle differences between the media and party officials to strengthen their relationships in the region.
