Seamstress jailed 12 months for causing harm

Kumasi, May 18, GNA – A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a 22-year-old seamstress to a year in jail in hard labour for using a blade to lacerate the face and body of the wife of his boyfriend. Esther Serwaa will also pay a fine of one million cedis to compensate Yaa Pomaah, the victim and complainant.

The Prosecution told the court that on May 9, this year around 2200 hours, Pomaa, ostensibly upon a tip-off, caught her husband and Serwaah “red-handed” having sex in the latter’s shop, but she quickly sneaked out to avoid being noticed.

Two days later, the two women met at a hair salon and engaged in a quarrel, which later turned into a fight.

The court heard that Serwaah used a razor blade to inflict several cuts on Pomaah.
