Hwehwee (E/R), May 17, GNA – The Kwahu Area Development Programme of the World Vision International(WVI), Ghana, in collaboration with Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) of the United Kingdom are undertaking a nine-day free eye screening exercise for people in three communities in the Kwahu West and South districts.
The communities are Hwehwee and Akwasiho both in the Kwahu South District and Wawase in the Kwahu West District.
Reading and sight glasses would be given to those with problems while those with cataract and glaucoma would be referred to hospital. Launching the exercise at Hwehwee on Monday, Mr Kwame Adow, the Associate Director of the WVI in-charge of the Central Sector Operation, said the eye screening exercise was to promote holistic development in the deprived communities.
He commended the teams from VAO(UK) for working with WIV(Gh) to carry out similar exercises over the past 15 years. Ms Collette Hartle, the leader of the six-man team, said most of the people already screened needed reading and sight glasses. Mr Alfred Osei, the Kwahu South District Director of Education, commended the WVI for providing education infrastructure, teaching and learning materials to some communities.
